小学生の男の子は
シマエナガの作品が好きで
シマエナガだけの写真集も　持っているという

子どもたちの豊かな感性で　
自然界の生きものたちを
見つめてほしいと　願う

Yesterday,
there were several families who came to visit.

A girl in elementary school who came with her mother
said that her favorite work was the one with the ten
peeking out from behind a snow wall.

On the other hand, a boy in elementary school who came with his family of four
said that he liked the work featuring the long-tailed tit,
and that he even had a photo book dedicated to Japanese tits.

I hope that children’s rich sensibilities
will allow them to observe
the creatures of the natural world.

Today was the third gallery talk.
We invited photographer Yoshikatsu Hayashi,
and the two of us enjoyed a fun 30 minutes together.

脱皮したばかりのセミが
青白く輝いている作品を　選んだ
思いがけない作品が一番好きといわれるのは
不思議な気持ちになるとともに　なぜか嬉しい

話が盛り上がって　あっという間に

On the first day, someone who had traveled all the way from Hong Kong liked the photo of a parent and child crane walking and purchased the work.
Yesterday, a girl in elementary school who came with her mother said, “I like this work of a Japanese black salamander.”
Actress and talent Sakamoto Mika chose a piece featuring a cicada that had just molted, glowing a pale blue.
Among the many works on display, it is surprising as an artist that the most popular work is one that I did not expect, but for some reason, I am happy about it.
The daily gallery talks are also bustling.
Yesterday, photographer Shin Yamagishi was the guest, and the conversation got so lively that
time flew by before we knew it.
Today, photographer Yoshikatu KHayashi will be the guest, and the event will take place at 2 PM.

I can’t help humming a tune myself.
And then the sun, about to set into the sea,
blesses us with a rare “heart” shape.

私が子どもの頃
母は　よく　片栗粉（※）を使って
おやつを　作ってくれた
それは
片栗粉をお湯で溶かして　砂糖を混ぜた　
簡単なものだった
けれども
今のケーキにも負けない
おいしい記憶が　残っている

大人になってからは
山菜料理として
カタクリの葉のお浸しを　味わうことがある
早春のスパイスが効いた
格別のおいしさが　たまらない　…
※ 古くはカタクリの地下茎から作られたデンプンの粉が原料だが、今ではジャガイモから作るデンプンが原料になっている

It was a simple mixture of potato starch dissolved
in hot water and sugar.
However,
I still have a memory of a cake
that tastes as good as today’s cakes.

As an adult,
I sometimes taste soaked katakuri leaves
as a wild vegetable dish.
I love the spicy,
exceptional taste of early spring ….
※ In ancient times, it was made from starch powder made from the underground stem of the katakuris, but nowadays it is made from starch made from potatoes.
