秋山郷でモミジ（前掲）を撮影した後
私は　写真教室の下見と撮影のために
小国町（山形県）に向かう予定だった
だが　車を走らせた直後に　
秋元湖から　呼ばれた（脳裏に浮かんだ）

私は　急遽　目的地を裏磐梯に切り替えた
同時に　フランキー（昊其鴻）さんの顔が　思い浮かんだ
彼は　１０年以上も前に　小国町での私の撮影会に　
香港から参加したのだった

私の『スポット測光術』が中国語に翻訳され　
香港でも販売されたことが縁だった
また彼が　毎年のように撮影で裏磐梯に来ていることも　後で知った
その彼から１０月２９日まで裏磐梯にいるので　
都合がついたらお会いしたいというメールが
しばらく前に　届いていた
私は　“予定が詰まっているので　また次の機会に”
という返事をしていたのだった

２９日の早朝に　秋元湖畔に佇むと
夜明けの素晴らしい光景が　待ち受けていた

しばらく撮影した後に　
彼が滞在している宿に向かった
彼は　羽田空港に向けて出発する直前だった
私たちは　短い時間の再会を喜んで　別れた

After photographing maple trees in Akiyamago (see above), I was planning to head to Oguni Town (Yamagata Prefecture) for a preview of my photography class and to take photographs.
However, right after I started the car, Lake Akimoto popped into my mind.

I had to quickly switch my destination to Urabandaï.
At the same time, I thought of Frankie（昊其鴻）’s face.
He had attended my photo session in Oguni Town from Hong Kong more than 10 years ago.

It was because my book “Spot Photometry” had been translated into Chinese and sold in Hong Kong.
I also learned later that he comes to Urabandaï every year for photo shoots.
A while ago, I received an e-mail from him saying that he would be in Urabandai until October 29 and would like to meet me when I am available.
I had responded, “I have a packed schedule, so we’ll have to do it another time.”

Early in the morning of the 29th, I stood by the shore of Lake Akimoto and was greeted by a wonderful scene at dawn.

After taking pictures for a while, I headed to the inn where he was staying.
He was just before leaving for Haneda Airport.
We parted, happy to see each other again for a short time.

秋山郷に立ち寄った

紅葉最盛期には　至ってはいなかった
けれども
秋が深まる過程の色合いも
これはこれで　素敵ではないか

例えが少しおかしいが
発酵が進む“どぶろく”の
元気のある風味が
感じられるようだ　

一時間　二時間と
熱心に見つめていると
モミジたちが　かわいい手を広げて
拍手をしてくれているように
見えてきた　…

After seeing the last day of my photo exhibition at Musee Fukuoka Camera Museum, I stopped by Akiyamago.

Although the autumn leaves were not at their peak, I thought the colors of the deepening autumn were quite lovely.

The metaphor is a bit funny, but I can almost taste the vibrant flavor of doburoku, a fermenting spirit.　

After an hour or two of intently staring, the maples seemed to spread out their cute hands and clap for me …

It was four years ago in autumn when I first encountered the tragic sight of a giant katsura tree
At the time, I was amazed at the tremendous vitality of the fallen tree and thought I would never see its yellow leaves again.

However, every year when I went to see it, the fallen tree welcomed me with a few fashionable autumn colors on its huge body.

And this autumn, too, it was squeezing out autumn colors from its body, trying not to be outdone by the surrounding foliage …

I spent two days photographing Mt Fuji.

The day after the commemorative lecture at the Musee Fukuoka Camera Museum, I was able to photograph the Owara Kaze no Bon Festival for the first time.
The elegant, slow-moving dances are accompanied by the melancholy tones of kokyu (an Oriental fiddle)…
The Owara Kaze no Bon Festival, a solemn performance of music, song and dance over three days and three nights to ward off wind damage and wish for a bountiful harvest.

※ 太陽が真下に沈む赤道付近だと約2分だが、日本付近では日周運動の方向と地平線の方向がずれているので、およそ150秒になる

I held my breath to capture the faint flash of white as the sun set, and in that split second, I snapped the shutter…

（※）　Around the equator, when the sun sets directly below the horizon, it takes about two minutes, but around Japan, the direction of the diurnal motion and the horizon are offset, so it takes about two and a half minutes.
